About Us

The Ach Gadol Family

Ach Gadol for Lone Soldiers* in Israel (transl. ‘Big Sib’, "AGI") is an award-winning Israeli registered non-profit organization that focuses on supporting the IDF’s Lone Soldiers* during their mandatory service, with the long-term vision of fostering their growth into positive, productive, and integrated citizens in Israeli society. For nearly fifteen years, AGI is doing this through a unique mentorship model, pairing veteran Lone Soldiers* with those in active duty. Through its vast programming, AGI provides these young men and women in their mandatory IDF service with one-on-one personal guidance during their most formulative and challenging years, and a life-long family network that will always be there for them.

*Since the typical Israeli doesn’t leave the home until after their compulsory service, a ‘Lone Soldier’ is an active-duty conscript, performing mandatory IDF/national service without having a family or home to return to when off-base – this includes orphans, estranged/emancipated, and young immigrants without families.

Friends of AGI (Ach Gadol USA) serves to support and strengthen the critical work of Ach Gadol for Lone Soldiers in Israel (עמותת אח גדול למען חיילים בודדים, ע"ר), advancing its mission and propelling it to increased heights, with the vision of expanding AGI’s programming, to provide Big Sibs for all Lone Soldiers in need. Friends of AGI (DBA) is registered as Ach Gadol USA, a nonprofit corporation under the State of Texas, headquartered in Austin, TX, and is a tax-exempt organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, for which contributions are tax-deductible under IRC Section 170 (with EIN: 99-0555939). For more about us, see below, or read-up on our Goals and Leadership.
