About Us
The Ach Gadol Family
An Ach Gadol is a big brother or sister; a role model and a friend to a Lone Soldier. A big sibling provides emotional and material support for their siblings and the guidance they need in the most challenging moments in life. Friends of AGI embrace Lone Soldiers before, during, and after their service. Our work supports lone soldiers for the duration of their service, provides them with an extensive network, and helps them build a life-long foundation for good citizenry and personal success.
For many reasons, both Israelis and New Immigrants serving in the IDF often find themselves alone, without the support of their families during the most trying and formative years of their lives. This loneliness is especially isolating during wartime.
We are proud to support the unique programming of Ach Gadol for Lone Soldiers in Israel (AGI), who provide these young women and men with one-on-one mentoring, support, and friendship, as well as an expansive family network that will always be there for them.
Pre-Draft
Outreach and Support

AGI staff and volunteers reach out to future lone soldiers and help them build a plan, and find employment, housing, and a new community in the intermediate period, all while preparing them for success, physically and mentally.

Training
Guidance and Counsel

AGI volunteers show up for their soldiers, giving them the emotional and logistical support they need to learn Hebrew, perform at their physical best, and accomplish super-human feats.
Deployment
Advocacy and Community

In addition to the 1-on-1 mentoring program, Friends of AGI makes sure to materially and logistically support soldiers on the front, while remaining steadfast in our community-building and big sibling programs.
Post-Service
Closing the circuit

Soldiers are discharged. Many elect to take the experience they gained in the army and pass it on to the next generation by becoming big siblings themselves. They remain part of a vibrant community that offers social programming, life-coaching, housing, and scholarship opportunities for young adults in the next stage of life. Many more return to miluim, reserve duty, where AGI continues to embrace them exactly as before.

Adopt A Lone Soldier
Lone Soldiers give three years of their lives to national service and the defense of the State of Israel. Assure them a high-quality and consistent level of care through monthly and annual contributions.
Just $180/mo keeps our soldiers clothed and fed and provides them access to high-quality medical and mental health services for free.
A $540 contribution means that new immigrants who have come to draft to the IDF can be received at the airport and supported from their first day in Israel until their first day in uniform.
A $5000 annual contribution means that 55 lone soldiers leave the army every year with a new laptop, setting them on the right course for professional and academic success in Israel.
$50,000/annually supports housing for scores of lone soldiers, meaning no brave hero needs to ask; where am I going to sleep tonight?

Our Values
Personalization
Providing individual support
Ach Gadol for Lone Soldiers in Israel (AGI) runs a unique 1:1 personal guidance program for Lone Soldiers to address the emotional and material needs of each individual soldier. AGI's diverse and 500-person-strong volunteer network is devoted to the values of excellence, patriotism, communal responsibility, and family.
Model Citizenship
Mentors who've been there
AGI's volunteers are all former lone soldiers, who understand the niche issues that no one else can. In terms of understanding the personal sacrifice, the emotional challenges, as well as the logistical, legal, and social implications of being a lone soldier, the extra identification allows for a closer bond between volunteers and their little siblings.
Integrity
Professional responsibility
Matching big siblings with their little brothers and sisters is no small task. Professional social work and organizational skills allow for better matching between the two, based on mother-tongue, family background, geographic location, and military experience.
Family Building
Life-long community
In addition to 1-to-1 mentoring, we support additional AGI programming. Friends of AGI is proud to facilitate pre-draft programming, as well as post-army support, life coaching, and volunteer support networks. Drawing on a community of nearly 15 years of former soldiers and volunteers, AGI does not just support lone soldiers during their service, but for life.
Memorialize Israel's Fallen Heroes
Order The Heart of a Nation by Adah Forer, and keep the memory of Israel's bravest soldiers alive in your home. Written by Adah Forer, whose 'little brother' passed away while bravely defending the State of Israel The Heart of a Nation recounts the stories of the 32 lone soldiers who gave their lives for their country during the course of October 7th War.
Adah was inspired by her own soldier, Yonatan Din Haim z"l, whom she had mentored from the beginning of his army journey, until his very last days. Peer into the soul of a nation, through the eyes of the flagbearers of Israel's core values. By purchasing a copy, not only can you support the vital work of Ach Gadol for Lone Soldiers in Israel, but also preserve the memory of these brave young men and women.
